Today I completed the reflection of my student magazine, and the analysis of 2 music magazines. Before the end of the lesson I started on My Music Magazine Proposal and hope to finish it by next lesson.
Front Cover Analysis of Two Magazines
We were given the task of analyzing the front covers of two magazines - I chose Rolling Stone & VIBE because they are very different.
Reflection Of Student Magazine
I was extremely happy with how my student magazine cover turned out, I think the colour scheme turned out really well - even though I had no plans for the blue and white. I also believe that my front cover was more interesting because I had two students instead of one; portraying a sociable place for people - not just an educational one.
We used Adobe InDesign CS3 to create and edit our front cover and contents page. At fist I found it a struggle because I had never used the soft wear before but once I got the hang of it, it became easy to use. With a wide range of ways to edit and add to my original photo it was easy to make my own. I added text and shapes and used editing using tools such as the rotation tool, colour and text effects.
I don't think I would change a lot about my magazine cover as I feel it was very eye catching and attractive - if there was something I wanted to change I would have changed it. However I wish I had had more of an idea in the beginning about my contents page instead of just going out there and capturing things 'in the moment.'
I don't usually like to plan things however I was glad that I did as I wasn't rushing the final piece. I knew what texts, headlines and so forth I was going to use. I believe that not planning my colour scheme was a good idea because it allowed me to experiment on the final piece. Depending on what background, possibly the season and maybe even the colour of the students clothes can depend on what would be best for a colour scheme - you don't want things to clash!
I thought that highlighting the cover stories in the contents page was a good idea too - not originally mine - as many popular magazines do this too. As what's on the cover tends to attract the audience it makes it easier to find these stories within the magazine.

Comparing cover images
One of the first things we were asked to do was to compare and annotate two cover images of two different magazines; i chose Vanityfair and The Source because they are two very different magazines making it easier to compare the two.
